Let's Kill Ed · Last updated July 2026

The short version, for the busy parent:

Everything you log lives in your own Google Drive — we can't see it, we don't store it, and we never sell or share it. The one thing that leaves your device is AI meal analysis, which sends your meal photo or description to Google to identify the food. On the web app that passes through our own relay server, which stores nothing and logs no content. That's it.

Who we are

Let's Kill Ed is a free app that helps families support a loved one through eating disorder recovery. It is an independent project built and maintained by Carah and Asa Gilmore — parents who have been in the trenches of ED recovery and know what it's like. Right now, we're funding this ourselves, as a way to help other families in recovery. If our project grows, we intend to operate it as a non-profit, and we'll update this policy if that changes.

The core idea: your data stays with you

Most apps send your information to the company's servers. We took a different path on purpose, because this is sensitive, personal information about your family.

Signing in with Google

We use Google Sign-In so the app can save your data to your Drive. We ask for the narrowest possible permissions:

We use your Google account only to sign you in and to read and write your own Let's Kill Ed files. We don't use it for anything else.

The one exception — the AI photo feature. When you take a photo of a meal and ask the app to estimate calories, that single photo is sent to Google's Gemini AI to identify the food. Google processes the image to return a result and, per Google's terms, does not use it to build a profile of you. The photo is not stored by us. This feature is optional — if you'd rather not use it, you can enter meals manually and no photo ever leaves your device. To look up calorie counts, the app also sends plain food names (like "grilled chicken") to the USDA FoodData Central database. No personal information is included in those lookups.

AI analysis on the web app

When you use AI meal analysis on our web app (app.letskilled.com), your request — the meal photo or description you submit — is relayed through our server (api.letskilled.com) to Google's Gemini AI and the USDA FoodData Central database, and the result is returned to you. This relay exists so that no AI credentials are ever embedded in the website's code, and so we can limit AI access to beta testers.

Our relay server:

Your meal logs, weights, and reports are unaffected — they are stored in your own Google Drive, exactly as before. The Android app does not use this relay; it sends AI requests directly to Google.

Information about your child or loved one

You may be tracking information about a child or another family member in recovery. That information is treated exactly like everything else: it is saved only in your Google Drive, we never receive it, and we never share it. You are in control of it at all times.

What we don't do

Sharing with your care team

The app can help you share your recovery data with a therapist, dietitian, or doctor. When you do this, you are using Google Drive's own sharing to grant access to people you choose. You decide who gets access, and you can remove it at any time from your Google account. We are not involved in that sharing and never see who you've shared with.

You're in control

Children's privacy

This app is intended for use by parents and caregivers (adults), not by children directly. Any information about a minor is entered by the caregiver and stored only in that caregiver's own Google Drive. We do not knowingly collect information from children, because we do not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles your information, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll do our best to let you know in the app.
